10 in 10 COMPLETED

Thank you to every one who came to support me it was a wonderful day. Michelle and I crossed the finish line together although we only ran 2miles of the 262 miles together. I am officially the oldest lady in the world to have completed 10 marathons in 10 days. Paul and I are the second husband and wife to have completed 10 in 10 as Lorna & Leon were first to finish. I got fantastic support from all the marathon runners who started to pass me after 2 hours, they started 1 hour after us. Ian Fisher from Otley Runners was first past me running fantastic and said well done! He went on to break the course record. Helen & Paul ran the main marathon Helen 4.47 and Paul 5.06 same as my first day.
We are packed and ready for a journey home to York - mission accomplished!!!

Day 8

Another one bites the dust! Very wet day, had to walk the steep downhills today as my upper thigh does not like them but fine on the level. Crept in under 6 hours at 5.58.40ish. Shells is suffering with archilles problems so was slower but I still cannot catch her, she is fantastic. Anastasia keeps getting round, Paul has gone to see her in for the last 2 days as it is lonely at the back.

The physio's keep patching people up, yesterday reminded me of a comment last year, "it's like the evacuation of a cottage hospital", but the body is tough and those that were having problems earlier are making great progress now.

Adam continues to fly round, he enjoyed Percy pigs, Paul was handing out. (Abby brought them for me she had better bring some more for everyone as they are popular).

Stuart's parents Pat & Norman came over for suprise support, it was lovely to see them especially in such horrendous weather. Martin & Maureen are here on holiday so popped along to the start and at Bowness after their run round Tarn Howes. Gareth who did 2 events came over to support us, sad for him but much appreciated by us all. We are getting lots more support on route from passing cars pipping. Although there are some poor drivers, one enjoyed going through a big puddle and drowning me today, it was a shock.

Paul drove Teresa round today making it alot easier for dropping all drinks at the refreshment points.

Jos Naylor saw me at the end he is pleased to see I am doing so much better than last year.

If Linda & Chris are reading this enjoy your holiday....
Clothes washed, drinks prepared so can have an early night, I need it.

Day 7

Another day done! 2 minutes quicker than yesterday, problem in left upper thigh at 23 miles slowed me down. It was great to see my Dad, sister Janet & Auntie Ruth at various points from Bowness. Paul came up last night after a day working in London, and helped Teresa put out the drinks supporting the front runners then back tracked to see Michelle & I. He then went out to run Anastasia in. Maureen & Martin cheered us on at Lakeside. Border ITV filmed us at the start. The weather was perfect for running today.

Day 6

FINISHED DAY 6 slow start, weather great, fantastic support starting with Martin & Maureen Medlar, in the early stage and at Bowness, Irene & Jean with husbands John & Alan saw me at the point of my problem last year, very touching moment total opposite to last year. Then in Bowness Abby was waiting for me more tears as it was an unexpected visit. As I approached the last stretch the Brathay team came out to cheer me in then all the cars started pipping and cheering followed by all the above at the main entrance and more on the finish line plus Abby & Michelle (who beat me again). It was a fantastic day and I am very grateful to everyone for making it so. The physios are working miracles, Aly and Tom had better days. Amy's Mum Wendy has been baking much to the appreciation of all. Paul is coming to support and help the team tomorrow which will be lovely for me, his experience last year will be a great asset to the group. I am planning to watch the apprentice with Steve & Teresa so will have to prep drinks now.

10 in 10 days 1,2,3

Days 1,2,3 have all gone well. Weather perfect for running except for the rain & hail. My neck & shoulders ache more than my legs. The days are taken up with preparation, massage, breakfast, start 10 am, finish, eat, shower, massage, meal, make up drinks for 12 on route points. Unfortunately Gareth did not finish today due to injury leaving 14. Emma (née)Latto and family saw me near to the finish-a lovely suprise. Paul & Abby came over Saturday which was fantastic to see them. Rod & Dorothy Berry have been on route twice in the car giving us encouragement. Michelle and I have run similar times but not run together she is quicker to 16 miles then I catch up towards the end. My time day 1 was 1 minute slower than London. Have to go to do bottles now.

Sunday, 3 May 2009

Welcome to my blog, I hope everyone is fit, well and looking forward to Brathay.

London went well, Paul & I had a slow run on purpose due to the heat but finished strong and ready for 10in10. My flurescent vests arrived Saturday, ran in one today, it is great. Looking forward to meeting up with fellow 10in10ers on Thursday, its time to do all the things on on my to do lists, and to sort through all the items I have put into a pile in the spare room to take.

Saturday was enjoyable for me supporting Paul on the Falcoln Flyer, 26 miles of moors, bogs and coastal paths the main problem was gorse cut legs - very sore. I enjoyed a stroll round Robin Hoods Bay between support points with a bit of hill work climbing back from the beach. It's lovely to see all the spring flowers and blossoming trees.

Rothwell 10km is our club run for this month so will enjoy a run round that tomorrow.

Bye for now
